Buddies- 6B and Mrs. Kamp's Advisory

6-B met with our Sixth grade buddies to work on a spring project.
Take a look at our partnership below.

Spirit Week

6B had so much fun together on our final day of spirit week! We celebrated with a dress down day where we wore clothing bearing our banner colors.  Calvert provided a special snack and Mrs. B baked us the most incredible cookie ever!
We celebrated on the playground with our very own Sixth Age cheer!
We also made necklaces, or key chains (our choice) using banner colored beads.
Below we enjoyed our special snack from Mrs. B.  6B asked if they could sing the "Calvert Song" before eating the cookie. Ask your child to share the adorable song with you!

An Inventor: Garret Morgan

1923 Garret Morgan patents his version of the traffic signal

6-B discussed what it means to be an inventor. Once we had defined the term we learned about Garret Morgan.  Mr. Morgan invented the automatic stop sign, which we now refer to as a traffic light.  We discussed what might happen in the world today if we did not have this important safety measure?  We reviewed the colors displayed by a traffic light, the meanings each color conveys, and what actions we take when we see each color.  We also discussed the proper placement of each color in regards to the top, middle, and bottom positions.  After completing a page on Garret Morgan for our portfolios we engaged in an exciting kinesthetic experience: "Red Light, Green Light".  This fun game was known by many members of our class.  We loved learning outside on such a gorgeous day. See us in action below.

Dr. Mae Jemison

6-B enjoyed learning about the first African American woman in space. The video above taught us many interesting facts about Dr. Mae Jemison.  One friend commented: "Wow, she wasn't just one thing!" We were inspired to learn that Dr. Jemison followed her dreams and was not only a doctor, but also a dancer, an astronaut and a chemical engineer.
