Practicing forming the number 3

What a fun new experience. We used dry erase markers to trace the number 3 on top of plastic sheet protectors. We were able to erase our markings with tissue then try again. We really enjoyed this new experience and were able to transition from this activity to pencil to paper work in our math books. Great job friends!

Interactive Writing: A Character Sketch

This week we have been making character sketches using word webs. Above you can see a web that we worked on together after reading a story about Johnny Appleseed. We added bubbles that described Johhny and the things that he did. All of the details we used helped to portray an accurate character sketch.

Today we had an exciting opportunity to create a character sketch of ourselves. We used details to describe how we look, things we like, and activities we enjoy. Tomorrow we will present our word webs to the class.

Friday Book Share

"Lasso Lou and Cowboy McCoy" was a really silly story! Cowboy McCoy decides to become a cowboy but he has no idea how to be one! He makes many mistakes as he attempts to live the life of a cowboy. He puts the saddle on his horse backwards, wears his cowboy boots to bed, and can not seem to figure out how to use his lasso. We really enjoyed this book. Thanks for sharing!

"A Mama for Owen" by Marion Dane Bauer

We loved this true story about Owen the baby Hippo who was separated from his mother after a flood washed the family down the Sabaki River. A tsunami wave brought Owen back to shore. Owen was brought to a nature preserve and chose Mzee the tortoise to be his mother. Mzee was a 130-year-old male tortoise who loved his new role. What a heart warming story! Thank you so much for sharing with us.

Fun with Technology: Riding the Math Bus!

We partnered with Mrs. Mollett's group to play a fun game using the SmartBoard. We needed to make sure that all the children got on the bus and made it to school on time! After each stop we needed to count how many children were on the bus then select the correct number. Watch below as we successfully complete the game. I especially love how all the friends worked together to "drive" the bus.

Chapter 4

In chapter four we are working with the numbers 0 through 5. We are identifying numbers, learning the proper formation when writing numerals, as well as identifying sets that represent numbers. Today, we talked about how we can represent different numbers using the fingers on our hands. We learned that there are many different combinations and sets that we can use to display the same number. Below we demonstrate examples of different combinations that create the same amount.

-et Family Sliders

We have moved to the short e vowel sound. Today we worked on our fine motor skills as we cut out consonants to use with our -et family sliders. The students decided to sing as they worked. I just had to take a quick video! They are singing a song about a rainbow.

After we completed our cutting we were ready to read our words!
