Creating Art Using Technology
Last week we took a break from our MyCalvert technology lessons. We started using a program called 2Create. This program allows us to create art and express ourselves much as we would using crayons, paints, or markers. One exciting feature is the ability to insert clip art to our pictures. Take a look at some of our creations below!

6's Begin MyCalvert Technology Lessons!
Technology
We have been busy!
During the past two weeks we have explored two stories and reinforced concepts on the computer. First, we read "ChickaChicka Boom Boom" by Bill Martin Jr., illustrated by Lois Ehlert. We loved the engaging story about the letters of the alphabet. We also discussed the sequence of events in the story. To reinforce concepts we played a letter matching game (matching uppercase and lowercase letters). We also played a game where we had to sequence events. Four pictures were displayed out of order. Our job was to distinguish and select what happened first, second, third, and last.
The following week we read "Chicka Chicka 1,2,3" by bill Martin Jr., illustrated by Lois Ehlert. Prior to reading the story I asked the children to discuss what happened the previous week in "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom". Next, we read the new story then discussed how the books were the same and how they were different. We found that the two stories had the same author as well as illustrator. Both involved large trees and both the letters and the numbers fall out of their respective trees. Conversely, one story involved letters and the other was about numbers. One had a coconut tree and the second had an apple tree. The letters fall out of the coconut tree because there are too many. The branch bends and they all topple out. The numbers fall out of the apple tree because a swarm of bees scares them out!
After our discussion we played a number game where we had to count the number of bubbles on the screen. The children used 1-1 correspondence, visual discrepancy, and identification of numerals.
