Mother's Day Portraits using 2Create

6th Age friends have taken a break from the MyCalvert curriculum to create portraits of our mothers. Inspired by the upcoming Mother's Day, we used the program 2Create to make virtual portraits. Some friends even utilized clip art to represent some of their mother's favorite foods, animals, and activities!

Pilots Excited for the Zoo Trip!

Today we celebrated the upcoming trip to the Zoo by graphing animal crackers!

By the end of class some of us really wanted a chance to sing a song about animals...

Have so much fun on your trip! I will miss you!

Story Map

7th Age readers did a great job in class working on their story maps for "Dragon Gets By". After reading the story we needed to go back and report on the events in the beginning, middle, and end. We also had to define the main character and where the story takes place. After answers were completed, it was time to share with friends and compare work.

Addition Using Dice

We had a great time rolling the dice and finding the sum of our two numbers. I always tell the children to start with the largest number when adding. Try this game out at home with your mathematician!

Addtion Match-Up Puzzles

Vowel Pairs ay & ai

We have been working hard on reading words that contain the ay and ai vowel pairs. These vowel pairs make the long a sound (sway/pail).
We have read literature that focuses on words with these two vowel pairs.

Today we started our workbooks.

Below you can see our first page of work. After we read the words below, we were able to illustrate them.
Great job!

Number Identification

We continue to review number identification (0-30) and enjoy playing games to make things exciting. Below we are playing "Around The World". This is a race to correctly identify the number card that is held up. If you say the number first, you get to move on.

Reading Long A Words

Today we worked on reading words with the ay vowel pair. In these words the long A sound is produced. Each student was given their own card. They had to first read their word. Then they needed to create a sentence with that word in order to put the card back into the ay bag.

After each child had a turn there was a challenge. Who could remember the word they were given? Below you can see the video and our awesome memory recall!

Tomorrow we will work with the ai vowel pair (train, pail, wait).
