Length!

Measuring length with unifix cubes!
We all took off one of our shoes (even Ms. Clark)
Next we had to estimate how many unifix cubes long our shoe would be? Then we were able to measure the length.

Many friends shoes were the same length! Ms. Clark's shoe was the longest. What a fun activity. More measuring with unifix cubes to come soon!

Cupcakes!

6th Age readers enjoyed a quick Valentines day cupcake together before we started our reading activities for the day. We loved this fun treat!

Graphing Hearts for Valentines Day

Pilot Mathematicians did a wonderful job sorting and graphing candy hearts to celebrate Valentines day.

Vowel Pairs au, aw; oy, oi

7th Age readers worked together to read aloud and sort the following words. Bags were taped to the board with vowel pairs written on the front. Each student was given a card to read aloud, put into a sentence, and drop into the appropriate bag.

aw and au letter pairs can stand for the short o sound.

_oy and oi letter pairs can stand for the /oi/ sound.

Great work readers!

Iceberg Game!

Ms. Clark and Mrs. Reinhardt's math groups joined together to play the Iceberg game. Everyone pretended to be walruses and as they swam around the room. Icebergs were scattered around with numbers written on them. When the music stopped each walrus needed to find an iceberg to stay on. A number was displayed and if you were on that iceberg, you had to jump back into the water... splash!
This game helped work on our number recognition. Fun was had by all!

Web of sounds: Long A

Recently we have focused on the long a sound. Our task during this game was to create a web using only words that had the targeted sound. After we said a short a word we then tossed the yarn ball to another person while still holding onto one end. We continued taking turns and were able to successfully weave the web! A few of the words we cam up with were: bake, rake, hay, snake, bay, pail, and snail.

Great Job!

Starry Night

Inspired by Vincent Van Gogh's Starry Night, 6th Age friends used the program 2Create to make their very own portraits. What a fun project. Great work friends!
