Happy Halloween!

Contractions with 's

Seventh Age friends are doing a wonderful job with contractions. We are currently focusing on contractions with 's. Contractions create a shorter way of saying and writing a group of two words. Above who is becomes who's. I tell the chilren that the apostrophe smushes the two words together to create a shorter word with the same meaning.

Sorting

Pilot mathematicians have done a wonderful job sorting. We have used various manipulatives and sorted by shape, color, and size.
We have even sorted the members of our class. We can sort ourselves into groups of boys and girls. We can sort by the colors of our shoes, or by the color shirts we were wearing.
Great job friends!

Plurals with s- cat+s=cats, mug+s=mugs
Verb endings -s, -ed, -ing
jump-jumps-jumped-jumping

Great work friends!

Matching

Pilot mathematicians did a great job today matching pumpkin faces.
We needed to cut out six funny pumpkin faces along the dotted lines (great for our fine motor development).

Next we matched the pairs of pumpkin faces that were the same.

We glued them in place, and colored them to look like jack-o-lanterns!

Reading Buddies

Ninth Age buddies performed a short play that they have been working on during the first five minutes of our class today. Seventh Age friends were an amazing audience. It was a wonderful opportunity for us to listen to the Ninth Agers intonation as they read their lines aloud.
Next we broke down into partners to explore our new story, "Mr. C's Dinner". We previewed our vocabulary, took a picture walk, then partner read. We took time to make predictions, and discuss the sequence of events in the story.

Below, we create invitations just like the ones received by dinner guests at Mr. C's dinner party. Our invitations are for our next reading buddies class where we will have a Halloween celebration!

Below, our invitations!
