Cupcakes!
We have been working so hard in reading this year! Today we had an opportunity to "pat ourselves on the back". We had so much fun eating our cupcakes and listening to a new story, "Leo the Lightning Bug" by Eric Drachman. This story is so sweet and if you are looking to add a book to your library at home I would recommend it. The story is on the children's best seller list and is accompanied by an Audio CD. Thanks to all of the 6th and 7th Age readers for their consistent best efforts!
Friday Book Share
Our scheduled Friday book share friend was absent so we had a last minute fill in! Our friend had her favorite book right in her desk and was willing to share with us. We loved the story, "Eloise" by Kay Thompson. We could not believe that Eloise gets to live at the Plaza Hotel in New York City! She has very busy days as she explores the hotel and has many adventures!
We loved this funny story, thanks for sharing!

Short O Word Family Game
We had a great time today as we played our new game. Using index cards we created many different words. We used the -op and -ot words families. By changing the beginning consonant we were able to create, read, and spell various words. This game will be sent home with the students so that they can share this exciting experience with you!
Please watch below as we play!
Here comes a tricky one...

Friday Book Share
We had so much fun today as we read about all the silly situations Amelia Bedelia found herself in! Amelia takes everything literally. She is not able to put words into context and complete tasks correctly. When she is told to draw the curtains, she creates a picture of the curtains. Silly Amelia, she should have closed the curtains! When she is asked to change the towels, she does not replace them with new ones; instead she changes them buy cutting designs with scissors! Poor Amelia.
We work really hard in class to define new vocabulary and use words in the proper context. Maybe Amelia should come visit 7th Age reading one day to practice with us! What a great story. Thank you for sharing!

Graphing Skittles to Celebrate "S" Week!
We had so much fun today as we worked on graphing Skittles! Previously, during "M" week, we graphed M&M's. We were able to draw on our prior experience to help us with today's activity. We sorted by color then graphed. We counted each column and were able to find the color we had the most of, and the color we had the least of. In some cases we had a tie between the number of two different colors! We also found that some of us did not have any Skittles of a certain color! After all of our hard work we enjoyed our delicious treat! What a great math experience.
Which color did you have the most of? Which color did you have the least of?

Head, Waist, Toes!
Phoneme segmentation
We did a great job today as we identified the beginning, middle, and ending sounds in CVC words. The students placed their hands on their heads, waists, or toes to indicate whether the sound is found at the beginning, middle, or end of the word.
Watch as we isolate the phonemes in the words: bat, red, and pig.
