7th Age Friends Review Syllabication using the VCCV Pattern

To check comprehension we revisited Syllables today.

We had fun reviewing VCCV pattern words. Once we labeled the vowels and consonants in a word we knew to separate the word in between the two consonants. Rather then separating with a marker as we have done in the past we used a piece of masking tape to cut the word into two syllables. We used blank paper inserted into a clear casing to write on. This made it easy to erase our work, remove the tape, and try a new word. We were quite successful in our efforts today. To check our work we said each word aloud and clapped out the syllables with our hands.
Great job 7th Age readers!

To extend the activity we looked at the syllables in our own names. As we said names we clapped out the syllables we heard. The names with the most syllables in our class contained four! The least only had one syllable. Ms. Clark fell into the one syllable category :)
